Robin (First SEEN)

Date: 01/01/1999

Number: 1

we have an unusually large flock of robins here this winter in
southern Vermont. We have always had small groups which overwintered successfully in the past, but this year is extremely unusual. This flock numbers around 60-70 birds and stays within a once-daily (at least) viewing distance from the house. The flock remains silent most of the time but I have heard occasional vocalizations across the range, i.e., spring. This has been a warm, wet winter (except for a couple very cold snaps), with
above-average precipitation over the past 18 months. They've conquered the sumac and are now on to other things; no ground feeding as yet.
