Robins have been reported in abnormally high numbers throughout the Lower Peninsula of Michigan this winter. On both of the CBCs that I compile in Berrien County (southwestern-most county in the state) record numbers were recorded and on both of these counts they were the second most abundant species recorded! The totals for the Berrien Springs count were over 1200 (previous high around 130 in 1984) and the totals for the New Buffalo count
were over 700 (previous high around 240 in 1984).
I work as a nature center naturalist and in early January every other caller wanted to know "what bird that looks like a robin would be here in the winter?"
Hope this helps a little. Best wishes.
