Kittitas Audubon's field trip to the Columbia Basin in search of snowy owls was successful last weekend and included some surprises:
31 Black crowned night herons in Moses Lake;
flocks of American Robins numbering over 10,000 in Lower Crab Creek eating
Russian olive seeds;
flocks of red-winged black birds numbering up to 20,000 with several hundred yellow-headed black birds;
flocks of western meadow larks from 20 to 50;
also saw a pair golden eagles doing courtship displays.
