the goldfinches here are now molting, our largest group of purple finces ever are also molting, the chickadees are singing their spring song and pairing, the hairy and downy woodpeckers are drumming and pairing, our male cardinal is challenging his own reflection and renewing his bond with his mate, he has been banging on a window for 15 days now. a sharpshinned hawk captured a chickadee today, it has been trying for over 10 days. the crows are very active, the white-breasted nuthatches have been quite confrontational for a while, a pair of red-breasted nuthatches, which we only see the end of winter has been here for over a week, we had 19 wild turkeys appear for the first time since winter arrived, fox squirels and blacks have been raiding our many feeders for two weeks, sap has been running for over a week.
