Our class visited Ardenwood Farm in Fremont to see the overwintering butterflies. They have fewer there than in past years, but said that the monarchs had started a new site nearby at a shopping mall, so it was difficult to say whether actual numbers were down. We had 10 times the normal number of caterpillars in the fall, so I was surprised numbers of butterflies might be down.
