Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 02/15/1999

Number: 1

Mid-coast of Texas: Our backyard continues to be visited by over-wintering Monarchs. Yesterday, we released 10 Monarchs that we raised from eggs off the A. curassavica leaves. We had as many as 42 chrysalides last week and even found one outside. We bring in the 5th instar larvae to raise and then tag and measure the Monarchs. The 10 eggs we brought in last week hatched: 7 were Monarchs and 3 were Queens (another milkweed butterfly). We have raised and released almost 150 Monarchs from mid-Dec thru mid-Feb at home and at school. Harlen and Altus http://homestead.com/vcms
