Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/10/1999

Number: 1

Spotted the first confirmed monarch of the season on 3/10/99. Its wings were in surprisingly good shape for it to have been among the monarchs overwintering in Mexico. Also had first queen butterfly visit the milkweeds at the Hans Suter Park butterfly garden, but this species is reported to remain in the Corpus Christi area the year 'round. Hope to have a lot of caterpillars by Earth Day, and to send the next generation of monarchs north soon thereafter.
