All Other Signs of Spring

The woodcock males have selected their singing sites and are performing their sky dances. We heard several "peenting" at the marsh site and heard the whistling as their wings cut through the air on the zig-zag flight down. We could not see them as we arrived a little too late for our eyes to pick them out against the background and the sky was darkening. We will try to go out earlier so that we can see them against the lighter sky.

During this same visit to the marsh we also heard sandhill cranes vocalizing.
