Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/25/1999

Number: 1

This is the first day since last November that we have had a significant "loading" of the A. curassavica milkweed with monarch eggs. There were a few leaves with 2 or 3 eggs on the top ... several with 2 or 3 eggs on the bottom ... eggs on some stems, buds, and blooms. We continue to see both monarchs that are faded and those that are "new". The 7th graders found 9 monarch larvae today that were 4 to 7 days old. We have started tagging "spring" monarchs. The 7th graders tell me the these monarchs are much "wilder" than the "winter ones". Harlen and Altus winter monarch data at: http://www.homestead.com/vcs
