Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/25/1999

Number: 1

On the 25th of March students in Janis Lentz's fifth grade class reported
seeing two monarchs moving south to north across the school playground.
This sighting led to a search for eggs and larvae on the Asclepias oenotheroides that occurs on the playground. The search turned up 5 larvae and 9 eggs! Queen butterflies are also found in this area but they use the A.o. less frequently than do the monarchs.(The eggs of Monarchs and Queen butterflies are indistinguishable.)
