Date: 03/22/1999

Number: 1

My 5th grade students have been watching for Monarchs and
recording sightings in this part of central Texas. We are in Georgetown
which is about 30 miles north of Austin, Texas.

March 19

Our first sighting by a 5th grader. Several
adult Monarchs were seen near flowers in a student's backyard at about 4
PM.

March 22

Three adult Monarchs were seen in a horse pasture. Milkweed grows there,
but no eggs were seen on the plants.

March 29
One adult Monarch on an Oak tree.

April 2

A milkweed plant in Mr. Smith's backyard has no Monarch eggs on it.

We have information on our web site about the Monarchs we raised earlier this year in a cage in the classroom -- under the Projects button on the main page.
