Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/08/1999

Number: 1

I spent much of the last two days with Dr. Karen Oberhauser (Monarchs in the Classroom) and Dr. Bill Calvert (Texas Monarch Watch). Tuesday we explored wild milkweed to the east of Victoria. Wednesday morning Karen and Bill brought her "Monarch Monitoring" group of teachers and students (34 from MN and 4 from TX). I got to host them at our pasture between Victoria and San Antonio. They studied 7 acres of milkweed (A.a. - antelope's horns). The plants were in good shape and about 50% had eggs or larvae. I got to see 16 monarchs working right over and on the wildflowers ... 10 were very faded with tattered wings.
