Our second pair of phoebes has returned and they were searching for a good place to build their nest around the house. Our first pair of phoebes have set up their home under the eaves of the chicken coop!
As well, the bees are definitely awake and enjoying the early spring sunshine. We took the tar paper off the hive last weekend, but our bee-keeper/teacher suggested we put it back on for a few more weeks! We will begin feeding the bees a mixture of half sugar/half water this week. We are very pleased that our little friends survived the snowy winter, and we are feeling quite proud of our first year as apprentice bee-keepers (in fact, we have ordered a second hive for this year!)
We have bloodroot blooming where the snow has just melted away in the woods along the road. The wild flowers seem to be sprouting everywhere under the leaf litter as the snow disappears from the woods.
