While many of the lakes in the lower part of Southern Ontario now have no ice, the lakes in the northern end of Southern Ontario (the "near north") remain frozen and they still receive some flurries.

On April 10th, Ken and Judy Smith of Redbridge reported seeing their first red-tailed hawk and belted kingfisher. They stated that they are eagerly awaiting the migrants and hope the lakes will soon be free of ice. They enjoy reading about all the migrants being seen in the south.
