Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/25/1999

Number: 1

New Orleans, LA
We saw our first monarchs of the spring about 2 weeks ago (3/25/99). (We identified these as being tattered and faded as opposed to our monarchs that have lived with us all winter.) Our bushes are loaded with eggs (4/8/99) and have been for a couple of weeks. We are about to see our first chrysalids emerge. It is about 88 degrees for the high temperature these days. We are having very little rain. I am watering the milkweed several times each week. Our plants are all leafed out and being eaten rapidly. I am looking at nurseries for more plants to put in the park behind us. We had almost no winter here and my bushes hardly died back at all.
