All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 04/11/1999

Number: 1

Today a student in my classroom burst out with the exclamation that she had seen a monarch over the weekend! I stopped the lesson regarding how insects survive over the winter. This comment was followed by three more students who declared their sightings in this rural area along the Rideau Canal and north east from Lake Ontario's most eastern boundary. The sun has been warm, the ground is drying up, the snow is a not-to-distant memory, and the robins are mating. Geese have been flying overhead to their northern summer cottages and the maple syrup is quite plentiful (given the tree loss from Ice Storm 98). Spring is more present than we know!pb
