Visited LA and TX coast 4-8-99 thru 4-12-99. Reporting that Snow Geese, Canada Geese, Lesser Scaup, Shovelers, and just about all ducks except Blue-winged Teal and Fulvous Whistling Ducks are gone from the rice fields where they spend the winter. I heard one small flock fly over but could not I.D. which goose. Did not see even one on the ground where countless thousands would be if they were still here. Also, nesting now are Roseate Spoonbills, most herons, Neotropic Cormorant, all egrets, and Boat-tailed Grackles. They are sitting on nests or rearing young.
