All Other Signs of Spring

Spring this year has been very interesting! For two weeks we have had snow and sunny skies every 24 hour period. It might be snowing like crazy in the morning and then the clouds go away and the sunshines bright and hot. This has been going on for a full two weeks! Our first signs of spring occur in early to mid January. We start seeing pussy willows on the trees. This year they were a little late. We started seeing them at the end of January, beginning of February. Something else is a bit different, too. Usually by this time I have gathered alder and birch branches to force sprout leaves in my warm classroom. But the buds are so small on the trees I haven't gotten any! I'm not sure why this is happening. Maybe our temps were too cold.
We were still experiencing -50F wheather in late February. We began a program called Project Feederwatch this year. We had our bird feeders up since late January and didn't start attracting birds until early March. We began seeing Black-capped
