I just spent four days out in the field and have some Monarch sightings for your project. The first sighting of a Monarch for me this year was at Prairie State Park in Barton County, Missouri on April 19, 1999 (near Liberal, MO). The GPS coordinates for the sighting are: N37 degrees 31.485 minutes, W 94 degrees 32.809 minutes in the spring burn unit. The female was very worn and was nectaring on spring ephemerals. The temperature was in the low 70's, in full sunshine, with a stiff northwest wind.
