Toronto is at the far eastern limit of Carolinean Canada. In Carolinean
Canada, one finds southern species more often associated with areas located
further south in the United States (ie. tulip tree, sassafras, prickly pear
cactus, and so on. So in Toronto, some flowering trees and shrubs are able to
survive, with definite help from the moderating effect of Lake Ontario.

This week in Toronto, the magnolia buds enlargened, turned white, and at the end
of the week had begun to bloom. Also in bloom are the forsythia shrubs with
numerous small yellow blossoms.
