Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/28/1999

Number: 1

We were very excited to find several monarch larva on the milkweed in our outdoor classroom here in Texarkana, AR. We were really surprised because the milkweed only emerged about three weeks ago and the tallest plants are only about eight inches tall. The larva were already large enough to see easily when we discovered them earlier this week. They also seem to be feeding on some coreopsis plants that are nearby. It is really a rewarding feeling to know that all of the hard work we put into planting the outdoor classroom to attract birds and butterflies has paid off.
