Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/28/1999

Number: 1

We have gathered data, tagged, and released over 150 monarchs since late March, all raised from backyard larva. Today we released 16 tagged monarchs at VCS at noon. About 4 pm, Altus and I were entering a school zone 3 miles NE of VCS and a monarch glided across the street ... as we were exiting the school zone (about 400 feet) we saw a second on the same heading ... NE at about 6 feet. One passed close to the car and a white tag on the left rear wing was visible in the sun (that is where we "tag 'em"). In Port Lavaca 35 minutes later, we had 4 monarch males in the backyard at the same time.
