Tyhee Lake's ice began to break up on Apr. 22, 1999, was about a quarter gone on the morning of Apr. 23, 1999, and I heard the loons calling for the first time about 7:00 a.m. PDT. My neighbour also saw them that morning, and I saw them that same evening. All the ice was gone by 7:00 a.m. on Apr. 24, 1999. I saw 5 loons at that time. The usual summer population of loons is about 9 - 11 adults.
