Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/30/1999

Number: 1

Contributed by Monarch Watch

I finally saw my first monarch of the spring at 5:00. It is a nice, sunny,
70's type of day with a gently southeasterly wind.
Inspired by Craig and Gloria's report of an egglaying monarch in their
garden in Lawrence, KS yesterday, I checked the plants in my milkweed
garden for eggs this evening. I found about 60 eggs on 4 species of
milkweeds but none on the small A. curassavica I'd set out to attract
ovipositing females. Yesterday and today were the first days this year when
conditions were suitable for oviposition.
