In celebration of Earth Day we add more plants to our butterfly garden
here at Jessie P. Miller School in Bradenton.
This year all 6 first grade classes participated in helping plant and
water the new plants. Our student interns form the University of South
Florida donated the plants as a "thank you " to our teachers.
What a great surprise.
We have butterfly nectering plants and caterpillar feeding plants.
We love watching the Monarchs visit the plants. The Monarchs we raised
in the fall seem to like the garden and have stayed all winter.
We are about ready to release several more Monarchs.
I have started a little column in our school newsletter about butterfly
gardens. Hopefully some of the children at our school will go on line
to journey north and become interested in "unpaving the way for
wildlife".
