Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/10/1999

Number: 1

Monarchs keep visiting and staying in our backyard. Yesterday (May 9) there were as many as 4 at one time ... one was a male that we had tagged (TX961) and marked on April 24. "961" has been the "dominant male" in the yard for many days now. A "wild" male, untagged, faded, and a few small holes in his wings, spent the weekend "dogfighting" with "961". Two different females were laying eggs over the weekend. Altus said the monarchs were more fun to watch than the birds. Three different days now we have watched the "dominant male" chase birds away from the birdbath or feeders ... the monarch just flies up and "brushes" them away!
