Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/07/1999

Number: 1

My third graders watched as a brightly colored female monarch laid eggs on our milkweed. She flew around the students as she visited each milkweed plant. We hope it is one of our 22 monarchs that we have released. The students were amazed as they watched this glorious event. They have learned so much! We have observed a large drop off in eggs being laid on our milkweed plants. Before it was difficult to keep up with all the eggs and larvae--the monarchs have really left northward bound! The decline started 3 weeks ago. We are still making observations and looking for eggs. Thanks for all of the hard work put into Journey North!
