First sightings of a yellow-rumped warbler was May 10. Violet-green and tree swallows came in force on May 11. We have a resident varied thrush behind the school now, and many warblers, sparrows, sandpipers, plovers, geese, ducks, swans and cranes. Boys report hunting and catching goldeneyes, pintails and swans. Last week it was 22 degrees; today (May 10)it was 64, and there are small flower spikes already 1/4 inch high under the leaf litter and grass shoots showing. Sad news: mosquitoes at the slough on May 8. No ice moving yet on the river, but lots of meltwater.
