Greetings!

As my 7th grade students have all raised monarchs from eggs in the
fall, they are ALL out looking for them this spring. Because our
school is a modern brick, earth-bermed building, the soil next to the
building is warmed by the heat absorbed by the bricks. Consequently,
plants germinate earlier than elsewhere. On May 3, we noticed a 6
inch milkweed sprout. On May 14, a student, Jody Schafer, brought in
the first egg of the season for us! Today, May 17, 4 additional
monarch eggs were brought into class. We are 100% positive in our
identification. We are waiting for them to hatch.
