All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 05/18/1999

Number: 1

The last couple of weeks I've seen either in my garden or in my area: Female Mallard duck with chicks swimming in a lake. A Robin on her nest, Oriols, Hummingbirds, Female Grosbeak, Scarlet
Tanager, Swallows, 7 Cedar Waxwings, Yellow-Rumped Warblers. Also found a half an empty Robins egg on ground.
Butterflies: Tiger and Black Swallowtail, Morning Cloak, Skippers, Fritillaries also a Comma.
I'm awaiting the arrival of the first Monarch any day. The milkweed is about 2 ft, bought this spring at a local butterfly farm. The Joe-Pye weed is about a foot tall now, All 10 Butterfly Bushes are about 5 ft tall, about 4 week till they bloom.
