Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/22/1999

Number: 1

Monarch males that we have marked keep returning. A male from May 11 made appearances thru May 22 and one from May 12 was present early this morning (23rd). There have been at least 2 females and 1 male that were not marked observed in the yard this week. New batches of eggs (over 100 total) were deposited three different days this week. HOWEVER, we have lost ALL small larvae this week ... probably the work of wasps (yellow and "red") ... many have been seen. We did plant checks for eggs and larvae and found only a few 4th and 5th instars ... there should have also been well over 100 1st-3rd ... covers for the milkweed plants?
