Hi--I was excited to see a monarch (90% certain) two days in a
row in Lexington MA May 30 and 31. In each case (may have been the
same one) the butterfly was cruising over a meadow in typical
monarch flap, flap, glide flight, but it didn't light on anything,
so I couldn't see the rear wings. My question: Do viceroys have
the gliding flight of monarchs? The butterflies I saw were larger
than viceroys, I'm pretty sure. (My recent memorable trip to Mexico
to see 50 million monarchs with Bill Calvert fixed the "gestalt" in
my mind!)
