Still have not seen a monarch myself (though several friends have called to
tell me they have, over the past 6 weeks), but yesterday I found my first
monarch egg at the Orchard at Altapass on the Blue Ridge Parkway near
Spruce Pine, NC. My friend who owns the Orchard had found one egg herself a
few days earlier, so now she has 2 for her educational display there. Like
me, she has yet to see her first adult. Like other monarch-less listers, I
am consumed with envy every time I read a posting about finding lots of
eggs. My terraria are hosting black swallowtail caterpillars in the interim.
