Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 07/17/1999

Number: 1

Monarch male #7 was still visiting our backyard as of today, July 17. Male #7 was marked and released June 17 and has patrolled the backyard almost every day since. Female #4 (marked and released June 14) was last seen July 12. Of the eggs being deposited by "wild" females, none are making it past 3rd instar. If we raise the larvae in a protected cage over the milkweed plants, most make it. We have a breeding cage for monarchs this summer and they continue to breed and lay fertile eggs in large numbers.
