Today male monarch #7 started his 7th week around our backyard. He eclosed June 16, we marked and released him on June 17. Photos of #7 and the other 6 monarchs seen this week are at: http://www.homestead.com/monarchs7
Monarchs are also being seen in backyards with non-native
milkweed in the Houston area this summer. Predators, esp yellow jackets, get every monarch larva before they get to be a 3rd instar. We have been using a screened cage over Asclepias curassavica plants in the yard and almost all eggs will hatch and become an adult monarch.
