Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/16/1999

Number: 1

Monarchs continue to visit our backyard milkweed. Last Wednesday we found over 40 eggs, brought 20 inside to observe, 12 queen and 7 monarch larvae hatched. The male monarch #7 was last seen on Aug 2 after visiting the backyard for 47 days (released and marked June 17). Our monarchs in the outside breeding cage continue to breed and lay about 200 eggs a day ... temps from 96 to 101 for past 10 days. Almost every egg hatches ... the larvae left out disappears (predators) while almost every one in the screen cage over a milkweed becomes beautiful monarch. Wild milkweed (A. viridis) blooming along US87 to Victoria.
