The first Baltimore Orioles are being reported heading south along the Texas coast. Patty Beasley reported from the Texas Hawk Watch site (30 miles northwest of Corpus Christi and about 70 miles south of Victoria) their first Baltimore Oriole Monday (Aug 16). The Texas Hawk Watch started their counts on Saturday (Aug 14) with 146 raptors on Monday . Jim Stevenson also reported to the TexBirds list on Monday "our first Baltimore this fall" and many more Orchard Orioles from Galveston (about 100 miles northeast of Port Lavaca). We were seeing migrant shore birds about 3 weeks ago. http://www.homestead.com/vcs
