Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/18/1999

Number: 1

Our family has been raising milkweed caterpillars since late July. Our first monarch butterfly emerged from his chrysalis (after 9 days) at 9:45 AM on August 7. Our second one emerged after 10 days at 10:30 AM on Aug. 12. [We got it all on video!] The third one emerged today some time before 6:00 AM. So far all are males. We have two more to go. One might be ready tomorrow. And the last one -- a few days after that. We are not sighting any other monarchs this week nor are there any caterpillars left on the milkweed plants nearby.
