Signs of Fall

Date: 08/20/1999

Number: 1

SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG. Rain every day for months. Virtually no flowers, just foliage. Seeds germinated and withered quickly in hot, humid, rainy weather. Caterpillars voracious. No nectar for adults. I should be out among the Spanish Needles photographing Gulf Fritillaries, buckeyes, swallowtails, red admirals, skippers, skipperlings and a plethora of insects. The garden is DEAD. Not even lubber grasshoppers. Could it be the paper mill or the solid waste incinerator that the county derated and EPA said scrubbers were not needed?

It is FRIGHTENING.
