I had the unique experience over the weekend of locating a monarch chrysalis upon the slender stalk of a timothy plant. I was searching for caterpillars when low and behold I stumble upon this empty chrysalis and right above it was the female adult who had probably hatched less than three hours ago. Of course, my camera was at the cabin and I just got to savor the moment. Within ten feet of the emerging monarch, I found four huge larvae.
