Last Sunday,8/29/99,it was sunny, warm,in 80's,humid.There were at least a dozen Monarch caterpillars in various sizes on the milkweed patch.I collected two caterpillars and some milkweed for the classroom. During the week, one formed a chrysalis and the other is still eating and growing.
I am thrilled to see the caterpillars.Last summer I did not see one Monarch butterfly or see a caterpillar. Not one milkweed plant in my patch had a hole in it.This summer the Monarchs were sighted frequently in my garden and the milkweed patch.I missed them and I am glad to see them back. So far no signs of migrating - possibly because all last week was in the 90's and humid - lovely weather for the beginning of school!
