Signs of Fall

Date: 10/06/1999

Number: 1

After long summer drought, lots of rain from Hurricane Floyd 12.4" . Rain yesterday. In the past week noticed large movement of monarchs (9/25). Leaves just beginning to turn. Should get chilly tonight, perhaps a frost. Noticed kettles of broad winged hawks 10/2. Encephalitis outbreak, transmitted by mosquitos in NYC has caused concern in neighboring counties including Westchester. Dead crows have been sighted throughout the county, though none that I have seen or heard about at my location, from encephalitis. Spraying of Anvil will begin tomorrow weather permitting. This is not supposed to be harmful to people but what about invertebrates besides mosquitos. Fishkills have been reported in lower Weschester where spraying has gone on already.
