Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/27/1999

Number: 1

After a high of 109 monarchs observed on the 9 mile trip across the Lavaca Bay Causeway and back on Saturday, the number had gone to only 14 on Monday and then none on Tuesday. The wind has gone from a week of being out of the north to now back out of the southeast at 10 to 15 mph ... still clear with a high of 82 and a low of 58. A cool front is expected this weekend and may bring the monarchs back to the middle Texas coast ... we expect migrating monarchs until about November 7. We gathered 10 eggs off the backyard A. curassavica and also brought in 5 second to fifth instar larva. Males and females continue to visit yard.
