We ID'd our first Couch's Kingbirds of the fall this week. As many as 8 in one tree near the creek just south of the VCS campus. We were able to distinquish them from the Tropical Kingbirds by their calls ... our "homework assignment" this next week is to see if there might be a stray TKB in the group ... the call will make the difference! Hawks and falcons (as many as 42 one morning along the 28 mile trip to school from home) are staring down from posts, wires, and trees every morning and afternoon. A female Ruby-throated Hummingbird was nectaring this morning in our backyard ... along with 3 monarch males.
