The Squirrels awoke from hibernation. Although they will likely hibernate again, this is a sign that Winter is loosing it's grip.
On the following day, Feb 9th, we experienced our first thaw. Many rivlets of water ran down the streets to the city drains, and the height of snow on everyone's lawn sank noticeably.
On Feb 10th, the thaw continued. Large patches of winter-worn grass were showing. The squirrels were foraging at our seed and suet feeders most of the afternoon.
