Date: 02/11/2000

Number: 1

Overwintering coastal monarchs continue in numbers along Texas coast: Since Christmas netted and tagged 41 different wild monarchs in the backyard in Port Lavaca. Today (Feb 11, 00) we observed 3 males after 4:30 pm ... one we had netted and tagged on January 23. Cold starting Jan 27 (low got to 34), cloudy, rainy conditions slowed things down for 8 days ... back to low 80's this week. We counted 21 fifth instars on 14 A. curassavica plants in a quick count this afternoon. 7th graders found 2 fourth instars at school this week. Wednesday an adult monarch flew in front of van two blocks from school ... N to S, 3 pm.
