Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 02/19/2000

Number: 1

We have looked for native, wild milkweed most of the week. On Monday we found some in two places about 5 and 5.5 miles east of Victoria alongside US87 right-of-way and the paralleling railroad right-of-way. We found the first open blooms of Asclepias viridis on Thursday where these two right-of-ways meet. On Saturday we found scattered blooming A.v. plants along five miles of US87. We also found new sprouts about 4 inches long in the city limits of Victoria inside the intersection of US87 and US59.
photos at: http://www.homestead.com/txcoast/feb15.html and
/feb17.html We also saw the first twos monarchs in Victoria moving at about 8 feet in a south to north direction on Thursday.
