Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 02/10/2000

Number: 1

After having monarchs at Christmas last year, I was quite dissappointed when I did not see any. The 10th of Feb. was the first time I saw one in my garden. She looked worse for wear and was laying eggs. Many of the eggs did not hatch. At this time I have 10 catterpillares about to hang and have sighted atleast one monarch a day either feeding or laying eggs. About half of these butterflies look older, with faded or torn wings. Much of my milkweed was frozen, but have alot left with flowers on. Many of the eggs are taking 7 or more days to hatch. I am very concerned what all this means. Am hoping they are visiting some where else. Many of the people I have passed out milkweed to have reported they have had visitors, all of Feb..
