Maple Syrup (FIRST Sap Run)

Date: 02/24/2000

Number: 1

The extremely warm temperatures this week have melted over 40 cm of snow from the forest, and our maple sap began to flow on Thursday. We tapped the maple tree in the primary yard at St. Peters School and I put out 51 taps on my farm in Madoc. The sap did not run very much on Thursday, but by Saturday, February 26, we were getting a lot of sap in our buckets! The bush is muddy and there is not much snow in Madoc. We are hoping that the temperatures will cool down so that the sap will continue to run! Happy Spring Journey North!!!
