Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/04/2000

Number: 1

Our pasture: 14 miles northwest of Cuero ... 75 miles east of San Antonio. As we were doing milkweed plant density and eggs/larvae counts we observed 14 female monarchs moving from south to north over an hour and a half. All flying close to the ground into a light north breeze. Many stopped at every plant in their line of flight, several observed depositing eggs. Moderate fade from 2 to 3.5 (new = 0, 5 = little color, almost gray and transparent), little tatter seen from six feet. clear, 80 dF, estimate at least 2000 A. asperula plants on 7 acres (1/3 blooming), eggs on 1 out of 5 plants, up to 6 eggs per plant, no larvae found. Coastals?
